PTT of Thailand and RINA of Italy Sign Two Energy Technology Cooperation Agreements
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 6, Thailand's national oil company PTT, through its PTT Innovation Institute (PTT InI), signed two memoranda of understanding on cooperation with the Italian classification society RINA, intending to carry out technical research and cooperation in areas such as low-carbon fuels, ship electrification, hydrogen energy, carbon management, and energy digitalization. The two sides will also evaluate technical directions including sustainable aviation fuel, cold energy utilization, data centers, and small modular reactors, with the scope of cooperation covering technical research, engineering consulting, and certification services in the energy, industrial, and maritime sectors.

The two agreements incorporate research cooperation, technical exchange, and professional knowledge sharing into the cooperation framework. PTT Innovation Institute, as the Thai party's cooperation entity, will work with RINA to study the feasibility and potential application opportunities of different technical directions. The work listed at the current stage includes research on alternative fuels and low-carbon fuel technologies, marine electrification solutions, digital technology applications, carbon management solutions, and hydrogen energy applicability assessments, with related research also involving technical training in the maritime and industrial sectors.
In the engineering technology cooperation, the two sides plan to evaluate sustainable aviation fuel and cold energy utilization solutions, and to study the potential application of cold energy technology in facilities such as data centers. Small modular reactors have also been included in the scope of technologies the two sides intend to explore, but the existing agreements do not specify nuclear power project sites, reactor models, construction scale, or equipment procurement arrangements.
RINA Consulting will participate in engineering consulting and technical feasibility studies; RINA Services will be responsible for certification, verification, independent assurance, and ship classification-related work within its professional scope. The two sides have agreed that all services must comply with applicable principles of international professional competence, independence, and conflict of interest management.
