en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 6, the U.S. engineering and technology company KBR was awarded an offshore engineering services contract by Saudi Aramco to participate in the upgrade of existing facilities at the Marjan offshore oil field in Saudi Arabia. The contract scope covers offshore oil and gas processing facilities, natural gas compression systems, and power infrastructure. KBR is responsible for providing engineering design and project execution services, and will introduce digital technologies, automation systems, and power system upgrade solutions in the relevant facility modifications. The engineering work will be mainly undertaken by KBR offices in Houston, United States, and Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia.

This engineering work involves offshore production facilities associated with the recent development project at the Marjan field. KBR will provide engineering services for oil and gas processing, associated gas compression, and power supply facilities, with the related work tied to maintaining the field's production capacity and the operation of existing assets. The contract also covers digital system integration, automation technology application, and power system improvements, but the specific platform numbers, the number of facilities to be modified, and the scope of construction subcontracting have not yet been specified.

The Marjan field is located in the Persian Gulf offshore eastern Saudi Arabia. In July 2019, Saudi Aramco launched the Marjan and Berri field increment projects, awarding 34 engineering, procurement, and construction contracts with a total value of approximately USD 18 billion. Among them, the Marjan increment program covers the construction of new offshore oil and gas separation facilities, 24 offshore oil and gas production and water injection platforms, and the expansion of the onshore Tanajib oil and gas processing facilities. The original development targets included adding 300,000 barrels per day of crude oil production capacity and 2.5 billion standard cubic feet per day of natural gas processing capacity.

Project progress published by Saudi Aramco in February 2026 shows that the Marjan field increment project began production in December 2025, and the Tanajib gas processing plant was put into operation during the same period. The plant processes associated gas from the Marjan and Zuluf offshore fields and is planned to reach a raw gas processing capacity of 2.6 billion standard cubic feet per day in 2026.
