Finland's Wärtsilä Secures Five-Year Service Contract for Two Greek 174,000 m³ LNG Carriers
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 7, Finnish marine power and technology service company Wärtsilä signed a five-year ship lifecycle service agreement with Greek liquefied natural gas carrier operator TMS Cardiff Gas, covering two recently delivered 174,000 m³ LNG carriers. Under the contract, the vessels' power equipment will be managed on a long-term basis through dynamic maintenance planning, remote technical support, and predictive maintenance services.

The vessels covered by this agreement are Al Thurayya and Al Majhoulah, both of which have been delivered and put into operation as part of TMS Cardiff Gas's ongoing fleet expansion program. Each vessel is equipped with 2 WinGD 5X72DF two-stroke main engines, 4 Wärtsilä 34DF auxiliary engines, and Wärtsilä gas valve units, all of which will receive long-term technical service support.
Wärtsilä will use Dynamic Maintenance Planning to adjust the vessels' equipment overhaul schedules, optimize maintenance intervals based on actual operating conditions, extend planned maintenance intervals, and reduce spare parts consumption. The contract also covers round-the-clock remote operational support, contract management services, and equipment operating condition monitoring.
The agreement also includes Wärtsilä's Expert Insight predictive maintenance system. This system uses real-time vessel operating data to identify equipment anomalies and potential faults, enabling technical personnel to arrange inspections and maintenance before serious equipment failures occur. Wärtsilä will combine the system's monitoring results with remote expert services to manage the power equipment maintenance needs of both vessels.
This contract continues the existing cooperation between the two parties. In October 2025, Wärtsilä renewed a five-year lifecycle service agreement with TMS Cardiff Gas covering the main engines of 7 LNG carriers, including two-stroke main engines and associated gas valve units. That agreement also included dynamic maintenance planning, remote technical support, and predictive maintenance services. The two additional vessels covered this time are under a separately signed service contract.
Founded in 2011, TMS Cardiff Gas is an LNG vessel operation and management company under the TMS Group. The TMS Group manages more than 140 vessels, covering LNG carriers, LPG carriers, tankers, dry bulk carriers, and container ships. In addition to power equipment maintenance services, TMS Cardiff Gas also uses Wärtsilä's Fleet Optimization System (FOS) across its broader fleet, integrating voyage planning, vessel performance analysis, compliance management, and real-time operational monitoring into a single digital platform.
