en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 12, Peru's investment promotion agency ProInversión signed a cooperation agreement with the Arequipa regional government to jointly advance investment promotion for Corío Port and its supporting logistics city. The port project is planned for construction in three phases, with a total estimated investment of US$844.48 million, of which Phase I accounts for approximately US$651.98 million. The project also plans a logistics industrial zone of more than 34,000 hectares, covering warehousing, distribution, industrial parks and related infrastructure.

According to the published phased investment plan, Phase II is expected to involve an investment of US$109.25 million, with construction content including a second bulk cargo berth, warehousing facilities and supporting railway works; Phase III is expected to involve an investment of US$83.25 million, with plans to build a third specialized berth and related equipment and facilities. The project's overall master plan is based on a multipurpose port, mainly serving clean solid bulk cargo transport while also accommodating general cargo and container operations.

The supporting logistics city will be planned with a cargo distribution center, warehousing facilities, an industrial park and value-added processing industrial facilities. The Arequipa region where Corío Port is located plans to connect Peru's southern industrial zone through road, rail and port networks, and to organize cross-border cargo transport for the Brazilian, Bolivian and Asia-Pacific markets.

The Corío Port master plan was approved by the Autoridad Portuaria Nacional in September 2026. According to the plan, in the 30th year after the port begins operations, general cargo throughput is expected to reach up to 932,000 tons under the optimistic scenario, and bulk cargo throughput is expected to reach 19 million tons.
