US Superior Idler Roller Upgraded Seal Configuration, Tested Service Life Extended by at Least 25%
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 5, US bulk material handling equipment manufacturer Superior Industries announced that it will incorporate Titanium bearing seal technology into the standard configuration of its conveyor idler rollers, applicable to all product models except CEMA B-rated idlers. This seal technology was previously offered as a premium option. Comparative test results released by the company show that idler rollers equipped with the Titanium seal structure achieve a service life at least 25% longer than other common idler rollers included in the tests, and are primarily used in aggregate, mining, and other bulk material conveying systems.

The Titanium seal features a multi-layer water- and dust-proof barrier structure that creates a longer intrusion path between external contaminants and the idler roller bearings. Superior's engineering team evaluated seal performance through accelerated tests simulating water, slurry, and dust intrusion, and selected seven other common idler rollers for comparison. The test results, combined with field operation data, served as the technical basis for this standard configuration adjustment.
This seal technology was officially launched in 2020, following years of research and development and field testing. Superior has continuously conducted research on idler roller bearing seal structures since 2014, during which multiple design solutions were tested and adjusted. Over the past several years, thousands of idler rollers equipped with Titanium seals have been put into service in aggregate processing, ore conveying, and bulk material operations, with operating environments including wet washing, slurry conveying, dust, and abrasive material handling conditions.
At Rogers Group's Gallatin Quarry in Tennessee, Titanium-sealed idler rollers were first applied in the wash equipment area frequently subjected to water flow erosion. After observing on-site performance, the quarry expanded their use to other conveying equipment within the plant.
Capital Sand in Missouri had previously experienced frequent idler roller bearing failures in its wet material conveying section. After switching to idler rollers equipped with Titanium seals, the relevant equipment has been running continuously for over a year, and on-site management personnel confirmed that the replacement idler rollers are still in use.
A Vulcan Materials production facility in Tennessee operates 6 days per week, processing up to 3 million tons of material annually. According to a case study released by the company, in the first year of operation after installing Titanium-sealed idler rollers, no related idler rollers were replaced on site. A Heidelberg Materials facility in Illinois also adopted this seal product to replace existing idler rollers that frequently failed under wet and highly abrasive conditions.
Superior has made available on its official website the testing methods, results data, and a service life cost calculation tool for the Titanium seal, allowing mines, aggregate producers, and bulk material conveying operators to calculate related costs based on idler roller replacement labor costs, maintenance schedules, and equipment usage conditions.
