en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 12, VivoPower announced the commencement of construction mobilization for the Phase One 40MW AI computing facility retrofit project at its Mo i Rana data center in Norway, and commissioned local contractor Øijord & Aanes Entreprenørforretning AS to undertake on-site construction. The works involve demolition of existing buildings, construction preparation, and structural construction of the main building. Following completion of the preliminary civil works, the project will proceed to the specialized mechanical and electrical system installation phase.

The project also brings in Mo i Rana local engineering firm IMTAS and building contractor TH Blikk AS to provide industrial engineering services and building facade and roofing construction services, respectively. VivoPower has reviewed mechanical and electrical installation proposals submitted by international data center supply chain companies, and will determine the specialized mechanical and electrical engineering contractor in the next phase. The data center retrofit design will proceed in accordance with the technical requirements of the company's selected priority AI tenant.

VivoPower completed the acquisition of the existing Mo i Rana data center on April 21, 2026, and incorporated 30MW of its existing capacity into grid balancing services. This project utilizes existing data center assets for retrofitting, involving building structural adjustments and subsequent mechanical and electrical system configuration for computing facilities. The Phase One 40MW retrofit project currently being implemented and the 30MW capacity previously committed to grid services are accounted for under different project statistical scopes.

In the cooling system design, VivoPower is also considering configuring waste heat recovery functionality, and is conducting technical and commercial feasibility assessments with local district heating operators and specialized European technology companies to study solutions for utilizing data center waste heat for district heating and industrial heating purposes.
