Infineon Technologies Deepens Collaboration with NVIDIA on 800 V Data Center Power Supply
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 21, German company Infineon Technologies announced the deepening of its collaboration with U.S.-based NVIDIA, focusing on the development of high-voltage intermediate bus converters (IBCs) for 800 V direct current power supply architectures in artificial intelligence data centers. The collaboration will adopt gallium nitride power semiconductor technology, supporting switching frequencies of up to 1 MHz and providing voltage conversion solutions from 800 V to 50 V, 12 V, and 6 V, targeting AI server racks with higher power density.

The high-voltage intermediate bus converter under focused development is responsible for converting the 800 V direct current in the server power supply system to the lower voltages required by downstream computing equipment. Infineon combines gallium nitride power devices with PSoC Control C3 controllers and EiceDRIVER gate driver products to form a complete power conversion solution. According to the technical configuration published by the company, gallium nitride devices can increase conversion switching frequencies while reducing the size of magnetic components and passive components, thereby reducing circuit board footprint and conversion losses.
For different server rack designs, Infineon offers three types of conversion solutions: 800 V to 50 V, 800 V to 12 V, and 800 V to 6 V. Among them, the 50 V output can connect to subsequent power conversion stages, while the 12 V and 6 V outputs target low-voltage power supply architectures. In the company's previously launched high-voltage intermediate bus converter reference designs, the 800 V to 50 V solution achieves conversion efficiency exceeding 98% under full-load conditions, and the 800 V to 12 V solution achieves a peak efficiency of 98.2% and a full-load efficiency of 97.1%.
The collaboration between the two parties began in May 2025, and subsequently expanded to include power path protection and hot-swap functionality for server racks. Infineon employs silicon carbide devices and dedicated control technologies to provide protection and hot-swap control support for 800 V direct current server boards, enabling individual server boards to be maintained while other equipment in the rack continues operating. In May 2026, Infineon joined the NVIDIA MGX AI factory ecosystem to promote the integration of related power management solutions with modular server architectures.
