en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 23, the government of Jigawa State, Nigeria, and Indian agribusiness company Srinivasa Farms Private Limited signed a US$10 million joint venture agreement in Dutse, the state capital, to build a modern poultry hatchery in Jigawa State. The joint venture is 60% owned by the Indian company and 40% by the Jigawa State government, and will focus on day-old chick hatching, supply, and supporting poultry farming technical services. Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi attended the signing ceremony.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the state government by Salim Abdulrahman Lawal, Jigawa State Commissioner for Livestock Development, and on behalf of the Indian company by Senthil Kumar Krishnan, Vice President of Srinivasa Farms. The project plans to establish a local day-old chick production and distribution system that will not only meet the needs of poultry farms in Jigawa State but also supply day-old chicks to areas outside the state, while providing veterinary advisory services, disease surveillance, poultry rearing guidance, and farming technical training.

Under the implementation arrangements proposed by the Jigawa State Ministry of Livestock Development, the new hatchery will be supported by day-old chick distribution facilities and will engage local youth in the distribution business. Some poultry enterprises in northern Nigeria currently need to purchase day-old chicks from production centers in the south, a transport distance of about 1,200 to 1,500 kilometers. The state government plans to use the local hatching and distribution network to keep the transport distance from farmers in Jigawa State to supply facilities within about 150 kilometers.

The cooperation between the two parties also includes technical guidance and production support for small-scale farmers. Srinivasa Farms will provide poultry production technology and related products, and the state government plans to implement supporting measures for farmers. Before the signing, a Jigawa State delegation had visited the Indian company's poultry production facilities, and personnel from the Indian company subsequently traveled to Jigawa State to conduct an on-site assessment.
