en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 28, Canadian mining development company KAP Minerals and advanced materials manufacturer Cymat Technologies signed a memorandum of understanding to form a joint venture in Canada for the development and commercial production of scandium-aluminum (Sc-Al) master alloy. The two parties plan to utilize scandium oxide resources from the Capuskasing critical minerals project in Ontario, combined with Cymat's aluminum alloy processing technology, with the goal of completing commercial-grade scandium-aluminum master alloy production validation by the end of 2027.

KAP Minerals will be responsible for advancing the supply of scandium oxide feedstock from the Capuskasing project. Currently, the project is conducting feasibility studies and metallurgical process development work. Under the division of responsibilities between the two parties, Cymat will provide its proprietary flux-free alloying process and related manufacturing technology, and undertake the development of commercial-grade scandium-aluminum master alloy production technology.

The two parties subsequently plan to sign a formal joint venture agreement to determine arrangements for scandium oxide supply, master alloy production, intellectual property, project financing, and commercialization. The companies will also negotiate product supply with aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing customers in Canada and other markets, and explore applications for federal and Ontario provincial funding support.
