DRC's Alphamin in talks to supply tin concentrate to the US
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 29, Alphamin Resources, the operator of the Bisie tin mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), is in talks with US tin refiner Nathan Trotter over a tin concentrate offtake arrangement, with the two sides expected to reach an agreement within weeks. The proposed supply volume is still under negotiation, but Nathan Trotter said the scale will be substantial while not accounting for the majority of Alphamin's annual output of approximately 20,000 tonnes.
The proposed offtake arrangement is planned to coincide with the commissioning of Nathan Trotter's new tin processing capacity. The company plans to start up the new processing capacity in the first quarter of 2027, and Alphamin intends to participate in the related supply arrangement through existing offtake channels and traders.
Alphamin currently still sells most of its tin concentrate to Asia. CEO Eoin O'Driscoll said that about 70% of the company's products are currently sold to the Yunnan region, and the talks with Nathan Trotter are mainly intended to increase regional sales channels and will not change the fact that Asia remains the main sales market.
Alphamin's Bisie mine has a tin production target of approximately 20,000 tonnes for 2026. The company disclosed on October 6 that third-quarter tin-containing production was 5,030 tonnes and sales were 5,046 tonnes; the Mpama North and Mpama South mines and their processing plants constitute Bisie's current main production system.
