Construction of Four New Stations in Liverpool, UK, Planned to Start Before 2030
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 30, Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region in the UK, announced the advancement of construction work for four new railway stations, with related progress to be submitted for review to the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority on November 6, 2026. The four stations are located in Liverpool's Baltic Triangle, Carr Mill in St Helens, Daresbury in Halton, and Woodchurch in Wirral. The Mayor's manifesto commitment is to start construction on all four stations before 2030.

The four stations are at different stages of advancement, with Liverpool Baltic the most advanced. Located between Liverpool Central and Brunswick, the station represents an investment of approximately £100 million, and the Combined Authority will be asked at the November 6 meeting to approve its Full Business Case, clearing procedural obstacles for the start of construction. Once approved, construction is expected to begin in 2027. Upon completion, the station will connect the Baltic Triangle neighborhood directly to the Merseyrail network.
The remaining three stations correspond to three levels: "design completed," "feasibility study," and "early development." The preliminary scheme and design for Carr Mill have been completed, with the next step being to work with Network Rail, Northern, and St Helens Council to advance detailed development. The feasibility study and preliminary business case for Daresbury have been commissioned, with results expected in early 2027 to determine whether the station meets the conditions for advancement. Early development work for Woodchurch is underway, with further study conclusions also expected in early 2027.
The four stations are part of the Mayor's "Merseyrail for All" program. The program builds on the previously opened Headbolt Lane and Maghull North stations, as well as the £500 million publicly owned Merseyrail train fleet, to further expand the coverage of the regional rail network.
