en.Wedoany.com Reported - SÜDPACK Medica, part of German packaging materials manufacturer SÜDPACK, has launched a mono-polyethylene sterile barrier packaging system that uses an all-polyethylene coextruded film structure to replace conventional polyethylene/polyamide/polyethylene (PE/PA/PE) composite materials. The new product is used as the outer packaging for cell culture and bioprocess production bags, and the related tubular packaging bags are already being produced at facilities including a newly built ISO Class 7 cleanroom in Coulmer, France.

SÜDPACK completed product development through raw material screening, polyethylene material combinations and coextrusion process adjustments. The new film does not use polyamide or adhesives; its formulation has been optimized for cytotoxicity-related evaluation requirements and reduces some potentially migrating substances found in conventional composite structures.

Internal company testing shows that the new product offers high puncture resistance, resistance to repeated flexing, and stable heat-sealing and processing performance while maintaining high transparency. According to the company's test results, the mechanical and barrier properties of the mono-polyethylene structure reach the corresponding levels of the conventional PE/PA/PE composite films tested.

SÜDPACK conducted an internal recyclability assessment of the new product using CHIRA software, which calculated a recyclability rate of 100%, and the packaging material is compatible with existing polyethylene recycling systems. A screening-type life cycle assessment conducted by the company shows that, under the selected material structure and calculation conditions, the new product's CO2-equivalent emissions are more than 50% lower than those of the reference PE/PA/PE composite structure.

The new product is mainly supplied as outer packaging for production bags in cell culture and bioprocess applications, protecting the inner packaging during transport, storage and handling. SÜDPACK has added the product to its pharmaceutical and life science packaging materials portfolio.
