EU Launches Llevant 3D Analysis Software for Fusion Reactors
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 29, the European Union's Fusion for Energy (F4E) officially launched Llevant, a nuclear analysis software that can convert complex text-based geometry descriptions into interactive 3D models within seconds, enabling engineers to view the overall structure and internal components of fusion reactors. The software was developed by the F4E Engineering Analysis team, originally for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project, and is already capable of working in conjunction with the Monte Carlo particle transport code MCNP.

Llevant can directly convert geometry data used in nuclear analysis into interactive 3D views. Engineers can inspect reactor components and the overall model from different angles, view properties such as materials and densities, and identify errors in geometric modeling. The software is suitable for model checking prior to neutron transport calculations, used to verify the geometry, material configurations, and spatial relationships of simulation models.
Álvaro Cubí, a nuclear engineer at F4E and developer of Llevant, explained that previously the team had to run computational programs and wait for hours or even overnight to obtain 2D cross-sectional images. Llevant shortens this process to seconds while providing directly operable 3D views, enabling engineers to complete geometry model checks more quickly. F4E believes the new tool can reduce model preprocessing time and improve quality assurance efficiency in the nuclear analysis workflow.
Artificial intelligence-assisted programming technology was used in the development of Llevant. The F4E Engineering Analysis team stated that with the support of AI tools, the team completed the software development in just a few weeks. The software is currently compatible with the MCNP code, which is widely used for neutron and radiation transport simulations, and can be applied to neutronics analysis of fusion devices.
F4E plans to present Llevant to European industry and laboratory technicians at a neutronics workshop in Barcelona, Spain, and intends to release it as open-source software. In addition to the ITER project, F4E believes the tool can be extended to other fields requiring particle transport simulations, such as nuclear fusion, nuclear fission, particle accelerators, medical diagnostics, and oil and gas exploration.
