Wedoany.com Report-Jul. 20, Brightspeed, a leading fiber broadband provider in the United States, has acquired 235 miles of fiber assets from Cincinnati Communications in suburban Cincinnati, Ohio. This strategic acquisition enhances Brightspeed’s ability to deliver high-speed internet to an additional 69,500 locations, strengthening connectivity in the region.

The acquired fiber assets are located 11 miles south of Brightspeed’s ongoing fiber network project in Mason, Ohio, and 12 miles east of its Lawrenceburg, Indiana build. This proximity allows Brightspeed to efficiently expand its state-of-the-art fiber broadband network, connecting more homes and businesses in Ohio and eastern Indiana. Recognized as the nation’s fastest internet service provider in the 2025 Annual Internet Service Provider Review by HighSpeedInternet.com, Brightspeed already serves over 200,000 locations in Ohio.

Brightspeed’s Chief Operating Officer, Manny Sampedro, stated: “These dark fiber assets complement our current fiber network build plan, filling in gaps that help us extend our network and connect even more Ohioans. We’ve already enabled more than 200,000 homes and businesses in Ohio, and this bold investment not only adds tens of thousands more connection opportunities in the Cincinnati area but also allows us to connect people even faster than starting the build from scratch.”

The company has also secured $13.8 million in funding through the Ohio Residential Broadband Expansion Grant (ORBEG) program, supported by the American Rescue Plan Act, the Broadband Expansion Authority, and BroadbandOhio. These funds will extend Brightspeed’s fiber network by more than 8,300 locations, particularly in rural Ohio communities, helping to address disparities in internet access. Upon completion of its fiber builds and with the newly acquired assets, Brightspeed’s network will reach over 420,000 fiber-enabled locations across Ohio.

The acquisition supports Brightspeed’s ongoing projects in communities like Lima and Warren, Ohio, where the company continues to construct its high-speed fiber internet network. By integrating these fiber assets, Brightspeed enhances its capacity to deliver reliable, fast connectivity, fostering economic growth and digital inclusion in the region. The expansion aligns with the company’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and providing advanced broadband services to both urban and rural areas in Ohio.
