Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 2, Cambridge Power has transferred ownership of a co-located solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project to AGR Renewables. The 49.9MW solar farm and 100MW BESS, located next to the Eaton Socon substation in Bedfordshire, UK, is ready for construction, set to begin in August 2025.

The BESS received planning approval in 2023, while the solar farm was approved earlier in 2025. The project incorporates ecological enhancements, with the solar farm expected to achieve over 100% net biodiversity gain and the BESS contributing a 71% net gain, supporting local environmental goals.

Richard Stanton, chairman of Cambridge Power, stated: “This is an exceptionally well-located and well-planned solar and battery scheme which has been developed by Cambridge Power over the last five years. It will provide an important contribution to the transition to net zero and the Government’s Clean Power 2030 objectives. Cambridge Power has worked closely with AGR, who will construct and operate the scheme.”

Since 2019, Cambridge Power, part of the Pigeon Group, has secured approvals for 750MW of renewable energy projects and is advancing a pipeline exceeding 1GW across the UK. This sale follows their November 2024 transaction, where a 29.9MW BESS project in Rutherglen, Scotland, was sold to NextEnergy.

AGR Renewables’ founder, Oliver Breidt, said: “The acquisition of Eaton Socon marks a significant milestone in AGR’s growth story. The assets complement AGR’s existing pipeline and further consolidate the company’s position as one of the fastest growing renewable energy developers in the country. AGR is planning to deliver the projects in line with its target of delivering 500MW of operational solar and 1GWh of BESS assets by the end of 2026.”

The collaboration between Cambridge Power and AGR ensures the project’s efficient development, aligning with AGR’s goal to expand its renewable energy portfolio. The Eaton Socon project will contribute to the UK’s clean energy objectives, enhancing grid reliability and supporting sustainable development.

This transaction underscores the growing demand for renewable energy infrastructure in the UK, with both companies committed to advancing solar and energy storage solutions to meet national decarbonization targets.
