2MW Community Solar Project Completed on High Street in New Jersey, USA

en.Wedoany.com Reported - High Street Logistics Properties ("High Street") announced that its community solar project at 3–5 Finderne Avenue in Bridgewater, New Jersey, has been completed, adding 2 MW of solar capacity to New Jersey's (the Garden State's) Community Solar Program.

According to SolarKal's estimates, the installation, mounted on two buildings of the industrial property with a combined floor area of 204,000 square feet, can generate approximately 2.4 million kWh of clean electricity annually, roughly equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of about 230 U.S. households; it reduces carbon emissions by more than 1,600 metric tons per year, comparable to the emissions avoided by taking nearly 350 gasoline-powered vehicles off the road.

The two projects were implemented under New Jersey's Community Solar Energy Program. For residents unable to install solar installations on their own roofs, this mechanism broadens access to clean energy for low- and moderate-income households, enabling them to use locally produced renewable electricity and save on their electricity bills.

SolarKal's collaboration with High Street began in 2021, with the two parties jointly evaluating and advancing solar opportunities across the latter's portfolio; more than 10 projects have now been completed or are at various stages of development. SolarKal's consulting work covers preliminary feasibility studies and market assessments through to developer selection and project management.

James Redland, Managing Director of High Street Logistics, said that connecting these two projects to the grid and putting them into operation is an important step in the company's portfolio solar strategy; as projects are delivered one by one, the company is more confident in what can be achieved across the overall portfolio, and these sites are now beginning to supply clean electricity to the Bridgewater community.

High Street's solar asset portfolio continues to expand. Two additional projects in Illinois with a total installed capacity of 6 MW are currently under construction under the state's Community-Driven Community Solar program. Solar installations are a key part of High Street's overall commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050: while advancing this goal, the projects also generate long-term rooftop lease income and increase the properties' net operating income (NOI).

The Finderne Avenue property spans 20 acres and has been part of Bridgewater's industrial landscape for more than 80 years, tracing its origins to the Diehl manufacturing operations of the Singer Company in the 1940s. Today, this historic industrial site has gained a new purpose, as its expansive rooftops begin producing clean energy for the surrounding community.
