Generate Capital Secures $117 Million Financing to Build 114MW of Community Solar

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 15, U.S. sustainable infrastructure investment platform Generate Capital and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) closed a $117 million term debt financing to support the construction of a community solar project portfolio located in Illinois and New York. This marks Generate Capital's first community solar financing collaboration with MUFG.

The financing corresponds to Generate Capital's Community Solar Fund 11. The portfolio comprises 18 community solar projects with a total capacity of 114MWdc, located in Illinois and New York. The financing proceeds will be used for project construction and subsequent working capital needs, advancing the projects from the development stage into construction and asset operation.

Generate Capital has continued to expand its U.S. community solar asset footprint in recent years. The company has previously participated in the development, financing, and long-term ownership of community solar projects across multiple states, forming an integrated model covering project development, capital investment, and asset operation. According to Generate Capital's official information, its community solar team has completed construction of more than 200MW of projects over the past several years.

In the first half of 2026, Generate Capital completed approximately $1.4 billion in financing commitments, covering infrastructure projects including community solar, battery energy storage, and energy efficiency. The company also previously closed a 104MW community solar portfolio financing with Monarch Private Capital, involving more than 15 projects and expected to generate approximately $200 million in investment tax credits.

The closing of this 114MW portfolio financing will further drive demand for modules, inverters, mounting systems, transformers, distribution equipment, grid connection engineering, and EPC construction. New York and Illinois remain important markets for U.S. community solar. New York, affected by factors such as site availability and grid interconnection upgrade costs, saw a significant year-on-year decline in new solar installations in the first half of 2026, while markets such as Illinois continued to expand.
