Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 13, Cheniere Energy, a U.S.-based energy company, has achieved substantial completion of Train 2 at its Corpus Christi Stage 3 Liquefaction Project (CCL Stage 3), located on the La Quinta Ship Channel along the north shore of Corpus Christi Bay, Texas. The milestone, announced via social media last week, was reached well ahead of the project’s scheduled completion date.
Bechtel Corporation, Cheniere’s engineering, procurement, and construction partner, has transferred care, custody, and control of Train 2 and its associated systems to Cheniere. The company previously completed Train 1 of the CCL Stage 3 project on March 16, 2025. Cheniere anticipates substantial completion of Train 3 by the end of 2025, with Train 4 entering commissioning and producing liquefied natural gas (LNG) by that time. Upon completion of all seven trains, the Corpus Christi facility is expected to exceed 25 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) in LNG production capacity.
In June 2025, Cheniere made the final investment decision for the Corpus Christi Midscale Trains 8 & 9 and a related debottlenecking project. Bechtel will also oversee this expansion, which will add two trains adjacent to CCL Stage 3, contributing an additional 3 mtpa of LNG capacity once operational.
Additionally, last week, Cheniere signed a long-term LNG supply agreement with Japan’s JERA. The deal stipulates that JERA will purchase approximately 1 mtpa of LNG from Cheniere Marketing on a free-on-board basis from 2029 through 2050. This agreement strengthens Cheniere’s role in supplying LNG to meet global energy demands.
The completion of Train 2 and the ongoing expansion of the Corpus Christi facility highlight Cheniere’s commitment to increasing LNG production capacity. These developments support the growing demand for cleaner energy sources, positioning the company as a key player in the global LNG market. The partnership with Bechtel and the supply deal with JERA further enhance Cheniere’s efforts to deliver reliable and sustainable energy solutions.
