Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 17, Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC) and Digital Realty have launched the first Quantum-AI data centre in New York City, housed at Digital Realty’s JFK10 facility. This milestone integrates superconducting quantum computers with AI supercomputing, creating infrastructure designed for the Quantum-AI era.
The GENESIS quantum computer, developed by OQC, is the first quantum computer ever installed in a New York City data centre. The system is paired with Nvidia’s GH200 Grace Hopper Superchips, supporting hybrid workloads and enabling large-scale enterprise adoption. Future deployments of GENESIS are expected to include Nvidia’s accelerated computing as standard, following previous collaborations involving Nvidia’s CUDA-Q platform.
Gerald Mullally, CEO of OQC, commented: “This Quantum-AI data centre demonstrates how quantum can drive the AI revolution - securely, practically, and at scale - while strengthening the UK–US technology alliance.” He added that the initiative will help redefine enterprise computing, particularly in finance and security.
Andy Power, President and CEO of Digital Realty, emphasized the company’s mission to provide secure, interconnected infrastructure on a global scale. He said: “By working with OQC, we’re using Nvidia supercomputing to make Quantum-AI directly accessible in one of the world’s most important data hubs - empowering enterprises and governments to unlock new levels of performance and resilience.”
Patrick Vallance, Science Minister, highlighted the transformative potential of quantum computing, stating that it could accelerate drug discovery and help reduce clean energy costs. He also pointed out that the economic impact of quantum technology could add £212 billion to the UK economy by 2045, creating thousands of high-skilled jobs. Vallance praised the deployment, noting it showcases British tech excellence and strengthens transatlantic ties.
The Quantum-AI data centre, part of Digital Realty’s PlatformDIGITAL, offers secure, interconnected infrastructure for a variety of critical applications. These include finance (e.g., risk modelling and portfolio optimization), security (e.g., advanced material simulation and decision-making under uncertainty), and AI (e.g., model training and quantum machine learning).
Jack Boyer, Chair of OQC, emphasized the significance of the collaboration: “This milestone shows the strength of a British tech leader scaling globally through international collaboration.” He added that the partnership between OQC, Digital Realty, and Nvidia exemplifies how the UK and US can jointly lead in deploying frontier technologies for finance and security.
Sir Jeremy Fleming, OQC Board member and former director of GCHQ, further highlighted the importance of the UK–US technology alliance, stressing that the responsible development of quantum computing is essential for national security and democratic values. The deployment combines British innovation with American infrastructure, bringing Nvidia’s AI leadership to critical applications.
