Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 27, Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has announced a tender for the construction of the Puerto Peñasco Sequence III Photovoltaic Power Plant in Sonora, Mexico. The project will add 300 MW of alternating current photovoltaic generation and 103 MW of backup battery storage systems with a three-hour capacity. This development is part of the 2025-2030 National Electric System Expansion Plan, continuing the growth of the Puerto Peñasco solar complex.

The tender outlines key deadlines, with quotes due by October 20 and final offers by November 14. Bidders must demonstrate expertise in engineering, constructing, and commissioning photovoltaic power plants and energy storage systems. Upon completion, Sequence III will contribute to the Puerto Peñasco complex’s total capacity, which is projected to reach 1,000 MW of alternating current and 271 MW of storage in its final phase.

“We are committed to advancing sustainable energy infrastructure to meet Mexico’s growing energy needs,” said a CFE spokesperson. “The Puerto Peñasco Sequence III project is a critical step in expanding renewable energy capacity and ensuring reliable power supply through advanced storage solutions.”

The Puerto Peñasco complex already includes operational Sequences I and II, which together provide 420 MW of photovoltaic power and 72 MW of storage. Sequence III, with an estimated investment of $270 million, is expected to be operational by December 2027. This phase will enhance the region’s renewable energy output, supporting Mexico’s clean energy goals and improving grid reliability.

The project underscores CFE’s focus on sustainable development and energy innovation in Sonora. By integrating advanced photovoltaic and storage technologies, the Puerto Peñasco complex aims to deliver clean, efficient energy while fostering economic growth through significant infrastructure investment. The tender process reflects CFE’s emphasis on selecting qualified partners to ensure the project’s success and alignment with national energy objectives.
