US-based Mach Launches Autonomous Mowing System for PV Plants
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 30, US autonomous driving technology company Mach launched an autonomous mowing solution for large-scale ground-mounted PV plants. The solution adopts a Tier-1 supplier partnership model, integrating the autonomous driving system into commercial mowing equipment platforms, enabling PV plant operators to manage mowing operations remotely. Mach announced the product on October 28 and plans to offer the technology to independent power producers and large-scale PV asset operators.

The system connects to the drive-by-wire system of commercial equipment through factory integration, allowing equipment manufacturers to incorporate autonomous operation capabilities into existing mower platforms without developing a complete autonomous driving technology stack from scratch. Mach stated that traditional equipment manufacturers developing such robotic systems on their own could face lengthy development cycles; adopting its integrated solution can reduce such R&D investment.
In terms of navigation and obstacle recognition, the system combines the Mach Perception vision module, RTK-GNSS positioning technology, and Mach's self-developed RadX phased-array radar to identify obstacles within the work area under conditions such as dust, tall grass, and intense sunlight, and to avoid facilities including PV tracker mounting posts, guy wires, inverter foundations, and hanging cable bundles. Given the dense module layout, narrow passages, and localized GPS signal interference at large PV plants, the solution combines positioning, environmental perception, and vehicle control to reduce the risk of equipment colliding with plant facilities during operation.
The Mach Ops fleet management platform enables centralized scheduling of equipment distributed across different locations. Remote operators can assign tasks to multiple mowers, monitor equipment status, and define work areas via geofencing. Mechanical maintenance, blade replacement, and hydraulic system servicing are carried out through the existing commercial equipment dealer network, reducing reliance on dedicated service systems.
Mach plans to showcase the autonomous mowing platform at the RE+ 26 exhibition in Las Vegas, USA, from November 16 to 19, 2026, offering visitors equipment demonstrations and on-site validation data. The company has not yet disclosed the actual number of plant deployments, per-unit-area operating efficiency, labor cost savings ratio, or investment payback period for the solution.
