Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 26, Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) President Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed has launched a tender for the country’s first solar power plant, in collaboration with the private sector, to expand renewable energy use. The project, planned with a capacity of 150MW, marks a key step toward Bahrain’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2060 and highlights national efforts to strengthen environmental sustainability.

The solar power plant aligns with Bahrain’s sustainability objectives and supports the development of future infrastructure.

A consortium of international and local consultancies has been appointed to manage the project. KPMG Fakhro will serve as financial advisor, WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff as technical advisor, and Trowers & Hamlins as legal advisor. This team will oversee the project in line with the tender release, ensuring professional guidance throughout development.

The solar facility, covering 1.2 square kilometres, will be located near Bilaj Al Jazayer in southern Bahrain. It will feature advanced solar technology designed to meet growing energy demand and enhance long-term energy security. Once operational, the plant is expected to supply electricity to 6,300 homes and reduce carbon emissions by over 100,000 tonnes per year.

The initiative is a pivotal part of Bahrain’s efforts to expand its renewable energy share, strengthen sustainable infrastructure, and encourage collaboration with private sector partners. By integrating solar power into the national energy mix, the project will contribute to both environmental goals and the Kingdom’s energy resilience.

This solar power plant represents a strategic investment in clean energy, supporting Bahrain’s broader sustainability objectives while providing a foundation for future infrastructure development. It aligns with the national vision of transitioning toward low-carbon energy sources and promoting long-term economic and environmental benefits.

Overall, the project combines advanced technology, professional advisory support, and private sector collaboration to create a landmark renewable energy facility in Bahrain, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to a sustainable energy future.
