Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 27, Nokia has completed a major upgrade of RailTel's nationwide Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) National Long-Distance network in India, in partnership with its authorized local partners. The project also includes the deployment of Carrier-Grade NAT (CG-NAT) and a modernized metro optical transport network.

The enhanced infrastructure uses Nokia's 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) platform and advanced transponder technology to significantly increase transport capacity while lowering cost per bit. The solution maximizes RailTel’s existing fiber assets and previously unused spectrum, introducing high-capacity Lambda services and express traffic lanes between major cities for improved performance and resiliency.

Additionally, Nokia's 7750 Service Router, equipped with integrated Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) and CG-NAT capabilities, enables RailTel to efficiently handle both enterprise-grade high-speed traffic and internal ISP services on a unified platform. The open-network design supports future innovation and seamless integration of new technologies.

Sanjai Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of RailTel, said: "This collaboration represents a pivotal step in modernizing our BNG, CG-NAT and optical transport systems. Through the integration of Nokia's advanced technologies with our existing infrastructure, we are positioned to achieve exceptional efficiency. These enhancements will enable us to deliver superior, faster, and more reliable services to our enterprise & Broadband customers across India."

Prashant Malkani, Head of Sales, Network Infrastructure, India at Nokia, said: "At a time where demand for high-speed, resilient network services is constantly increasing, RailTel has put its trust in Nokia to ensure its critical network modernization project is successful. We have unmatched credentials in supporting open network architectures which integrate into any customer ecosystem, and the use of our latest set of IP routers and optical transponders will help RailTel to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency."

The upgraded network strengthens RailTel's ability to meet growing bandwidth requirements across India while maintaining cost-effectiveness and service quality for enterprise and broadband customers nationwide.
