Wedoany.com Report-Dec.7, Telia has successfully deployed and commissioned Lithuania's first private 5G Standalone (SA) network at the Port of Klaipėda. The network was officially launched with a ceremonial first call, marking the start of live operational testing across the port area.

The dedicated private 5G SA infrastructure operates independently of public mobile networks, delivering ultra-low latency, consistent coverage even in demanding environments, and dynamic resource allocation for maximum reliability.

Algis Latakas, CEO of the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, said: "Testing the private 5G network highlights the Port of Klaipėda's consistent leadership in implementing innovative solutions and automating its processes. This infrastructure will enable smart cargo management, autonomous transport, and other modern solutions that will strengthen the port's safety and efficiency. It will further reinforce the Port of Klaipėda’s position in the Baltic Sea region."

Giedrė Kaminskaitė-Salters, CEO of Telia Lithuania, added: “The launch of a private, standalone 5G SA network at the Port of Klaipėda proves that world-class solutions can be developed here in Lithuania. This technological breakthrough enables more secure infrastructure, industrial automation, and innovations on a completely new scale. Together, the Port of Klaipėda and Telia are becoming leaders of this transformation, and the first call is only the beginning. I am confident that other strategically important Lithuanian companies will soon recognize the potential of private 5G SA.”

The network achieves download speeds of up to 1.5 Gb/s and upload speeds of up to 120 Mb/s. Port operators and terminal companies are currently conducting real-world trials, including instant digital radio communications and direct 5G voice calls, under full operational conditions.

According to Ookla data, only about 10 percent of mobile operators worldwide have deployed commercial 5G Standalone networks, underscoring the advanced position of both Telia and Lithuania in regional telecommunications development.

The initiative builds on the port's ongoing modernisation efforts. In September 2025, Klaipėda completed its first quay electrification project, further enhancing operational efficiency and environmental performance.

With the private 5G SA network now active, the Port of Klaipėda gains a powerful platform to accelerate digital transformation, improve safety, and support future applications such as automated equipment and real-time cargo tracking. The successful implementation positions the port as a leading smart maritime hub in the Baltic region.
