PANYNJ Handles 5 Million Loaded TEUs in 2025

Wedoany.com Report-Dec.8, The Port of New York and New Jersey recorded strong cargo activity from January through October 2025, handling 5.01 million loaded TEUs during the ten-month period. This volume confirms the port’s position as the second-busiest gateway in the United States for loaded containers.

In October alone, total throughput rose 3.2% year-on-year to 727,059 TEUs (395,687 containers), compared with 704,367 TEUs the previous October. Year-to-date total volume reached 7.51 million TEUs (4.12 million containers).

Exports showed notable strength in October, climbing 44.9% to 126,644 TEUs (67,618 containers) from 87,407 TEUs a year earlier. For the first ten months of 2025, exports totalled 1.21 million TEUs (647,888 containers), an increase of 8.1% over the same period in 2024.

Imports registered a modest 3.1% decline in October, reaching 368,439 TEUs (201,459 containers) versus 380,289 TEUs in October 2024. January–October imports amounted to 3.80 million TEUs (2,095,280 containers), up 1.7% from the prior year.

Empty container movements displayed mixed results. Export empties fell 2.5% in October but rose 3% year-to-date to 2.48 million TEUs. Import empties declined 23.1% over the ten-month period.

Rail volume continued its positive trend, posting a ninth consecutive month of year-on-year growth. October rail lifts reached 57,272 containers, a 22.9% increase, while January–October rail volume grew 13.2% compared with 2024.

Separately, PortMiami reported handling 1.11 million TEUs for Fiscal Year 2025, an improvement from 1.08 million TEUs in the previous fiscal year.
