Wedoany.com Report-Dec.9, Tesla announced on December 8, 2025 that Gigafactory Shanghai has manufactured its four millionth vehicle, reaching the milestone just 14 months after producing its three millionth unit. The rapid pace highlights the plant's position as Tesla's highest-volume and most efficient manufacturing facility.
Located in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area within the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the 860,000-square-metre factory began operations in late 2019. In six years, it has grown to account for nearly half of Tesla's worldwide deliveries and serves as the company's primary export centre. Local component sourcing now exceeds 95 percent, and the production line completes a vehicle approximately every 30 seconds.
The four millionth vehicle was a Starlight Gold Model Y Long Range six-seat variant, introduced in August 2025 and available for delivery since early September at a price of 339,000 yuan. This premium extended-wheelbase model features a 2-2-2 seating layout, a 3,040 mm wheelbase, and total cargo space of 2,539 litres even with all seats in use.
Powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system (142 kW front, 198 kW rear), it accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The 82-kWh ternary-lithium battery provides a CLTC-rated range of 751 kilometres, with energy consumption of 12.8 kWh per 100 km.
Recent performance data underscore continued strong demand in China. According to preliminary figures from the China Passenger Car Association, retail sales of China-made Tesla vehicles rose 9.9 percent year-on-year in November to 86,700 units. Total production at Gigafactory Shanghai, covering Model 3 and Model Y units for both domestic customers and exports to Europe and other markets, increased 41 percent month-on-month.
Gigafactory Shanghai remains one of Tesla's four global vehicle assembly plants, alongside Fremont (California), Austin (Texas) and Berlin (Germany), and continues to set new benchmarks in manufacturing speed and scale within the company's worldwide network. The achievement reflects sustained operational growth and deepening integration with China’s electric vehicle supply chain.
