Wedoany.com Report-Dec.9, The final 75-km section of the Patras–Pyrgos highway in Greece has been opened to traffic, marking the completion of a €331 million infrastructure project integrated into the Olympia Odos concession contract.
A major new highway section is now open in Greece
VINCI Highways, in collaboration with Greek partners Avax, Aktor Concessions and Gek Terna, managed the design, financing and construction of the new highway segment. The consortium will also operate and maintain the corridor until 2044. This integrated approach allowed the Greek government to expedite project delivery while maintaining uniform quality and operational standards across the Olympia Odos network.
The upgraded highway transforms the former national road into a modern, high-capacity route, significantly improving connectivity across Western Peloponnese. The corridor reduces travel times, enhances road safety and provides better access to key regional destinations for residents and visitors.
Advanced technologies have been incorporated to improve user experience and sustainability. These include fully automated toll collection systems, electric vehicle charging stations and plans for solar-powered operations in the near future, all contributing to enhanced service quality and reduced environmental impact.
VINCI Highways CEO Louis-Roch Burgard stated: "The opening of the Patras–Pyrgos highway is a significant milestone for sustainable mobility in Greece. This project demonstrates the strength of our partnership with the Greek State and our local partners, delivering a modern, safe and environmentally responsible transport solution that will serve the region for decades."
The completion of this section strengthens Greece's national transport infrastructure, supporting economic activity and tourism in the Peloponnese while setting a benchmark for future highway development in the country.
