Merrill's Packaging runs ISO 13485-certified manufacturing facilities in Burlingame, California, and Alajuela, Costa Rica.

Merrill's Packaging specializes in custom thermoformed trays, blisters, and related products for medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and life-science applications. The company also offers die-cut pouches, mounting cards, and comprehensive design-to-production services. It operates two ISO 13485-certified manufacturing facilities: one in Burlingame, California, and a second in Alajuela, Costa Rica.

Merrill's Packaging CEO Rick Schulz said: "This is an incredible growth opportunity for Merrill's employees and customers. With access to Nelipak's global capabilities and broad suite of rigid and flexible product solutions, we look forward to exploring new ways to deliver value to our customers."

Founded in 1961, Merrill's Packaging has built a strong reputation for high-precision thermoforming. Key milestones include its expansion into Costa Rica in 2010 and the opening of a significantly larger production site there in 2024.

Nelipak CEO Pat Chambliss stated: "We are excited to welcome the Merrill's Packaging team to the Nelipak family. We have tremendous respect for their history of growth, innovation, and customer focus. Nelipak will benefit from Merrill's dedicated and talented team, custom thermoforming capabilities, strong customer relationships, and well-located production sites in California and Costa Rica."

The acquisition enhances Nelipak's manufacturing footprint and technical expertise in custom rigid packaging, particularly for complex medical and pharmaceutical products. It adds strategic capacity on both the U.S. West Coast and in Central America, supporting faster response times and improved supply-chain resilience for customers across the Americas.

Nelipak now employs more than 1,600 people worldwide and operates 14 production facilities: eight in the Americas, five in Europe, and one in Asia. The company supplies a comprehensive range of sterile-barrier solutions, including trays, blisters, and flexible packaging, to the medical device, diagnostic, and drug-delivery sectors.

The integration of Merrill's Packaging is expected to create new opportunities for innovation and expanded service offerings while maintaining the high-quality standards both companies are known for in the healthcare packaging industry.
