Wedoany.com Report-Jan.1, The Port Authority of Valencia (APV), operating as Valenciaport, has reported a total cargo throughput of 73.8 million tonnes across its facilities in Valencia, Sagunto, and Gandia so far in 2025. This figure shows a marginal decline of 0.2 percent compared to the same period last year.

Container traffic performed more strongly, reaching 5.26 million TEUs with a year-on-year increase of 4.93 percent. With one month left in the year, cumulative exports from Valenciaport have risen by 7.9 percent, while imports have grown by 14.47 percent. China, the United States, Algeria, and Morocco continue to rank as the port's leading trade partners.

Passenger traffic has also progressed steadily, totaling 1.56 million passengers during the year. In recent months, phosphates, along with frozen and refrigerated fish, have emerged as the main export commodities. Algeria and Morocco have shown the fastest growth in export volumes, though China and the United States remain the largest overall trading partners.

In November alone, Valenciaport processed 6.65 million tonnes of cargo, up 10.22 percent year-on-year. Container movements increased by 18.47 percent to 481,691 TEUs, supported by a 52.46 percent rise in exports and a 19.18 percent growth in imports for the month.

These results were presented at the latest meeting of the APV Board of Directors. During the session, the Board approved an administrative concession to Ership, Intersagunto, and Compañía General de Compras Agropecuarias (CGCA) for the development and operation of a solid bulk terminal at the Port of Sagunto. The terminal will focus on solid bulk handling, excluding clinker and cement, and is expected to strengthen capacity for this cargo type.

Valenciaport has also reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability. The port authority has set a target to achieve carbon neutrality at its facilities in Valencia, Sagunto, and Gandia by 2035. This objective is part of a broader strategy that includes energy transition measures, increased use of renewable energy, provision of shore power for vessels, and other initiatives to reduce emissions while maintaining efficient operations.

The overall performance reflects Valenciaport's ability to sustain growth in key segments such as containerized trade and international commerce. The increases in exports, imports, and monthly volumes highlight the port's central role in supporting trade flows. The new bulk terminal concession and long-term environmental goals further demonstrate Valenciaport's focus on capacity expansion and responsible development in the Mediterranean region.
