Wedoany.com Report-Dec.26, Kalmar has concluded an agreement with Eurogate Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven (CTW) to relocate and modify two ZPMC Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes. The project forms part of Kalmar's Modernisation Services offering and was booked as a large order in Kalmar's fourth-quarter 2025 intake.

The cranes, originally built by ZPMC for tandem 40-foot container operations with a maximum lifting capacity of 112 tonnes, are being moved from Eurogate’s Container Terminal Bremerhaven to the Wilhelmshaven facility. This relocation aims to extend the operational capability and lifespan of the customer’s crane fleet.

The complex undertaking includes preparation and transport of the cranes via a Heavy Lift Semi-Submersible Barge, along with extensive mechanical and electrical modifications. Kalmar will manage the full process, encompassing engineering, execution, commissioning, and testing to confirm full functionality at the Wilhelmshaven terminal upon completion. The project is scheduled to conclude by the end of the second quarter of 2026.

Kalmar provides in-house engineering expertise for all upgrade-related activities, assisting customers in safely and efficiently managing the lifecycle of their equipment.

Holger Bomm, Managing Director at Eurogate CTW, said: "Our decision to choose Kalmar was based on our long-standing relationship. Building on our experience from previous heightening projects, we knew Kalmar could deliver the right technical solution. We rely on their expertise to handle complex modifications, and we trust them to get the job done."

Fred Jansen, Senior Service and Sales Manager, Benelux, Kalmar Netherlands B.V., stated: "We're excited to continue working with Eurogate and to support them in optimising their terminal operations. Relocating and upgrading cranes of this scale requires deep engineering knowledge and precise execution."

This initiative demonstrates Kalmar's capability in delivering large-scale modernisation and relocation projects for container terminals, regardless of the original equipment manufacturer. The work supports efficient asset management and operational continuity at Eurogate CTW.

Earlier in December 2025, Kalmar announced the launch of a comprehensive new range of DC charging solutions. These have been developed in partnership with charger manufacturers Kempower and SINEXCEL to complement Kalmar's established portfolio of electric material-handling machines. The solutions include movable chargers, integrated station chargers, and distributed charging systems, with options such as megawatt charging capabilities.

The partnerships leverage Kempower's and SINEXCEL's experience in DC charging technology to ensure compatibility, reliability, and optimal user experience for customers adopting Kalmar's electric equipment. This development aligns with efforts to advance electrification in ports, terminals, and logistics operations globally.

Together, these announcements highlight Kalmar's focus on both service-based lifecycle support for existing assets and forward-looking solutions for sustainable material handling. The crane project at Wilhelmshaven reinforces Kalmar’s role in maintaining and enhancing port infrastructure in Europe, while the charging innovations contribute to broader industry progress toward efficient, lower-emission operations.
