Wedoany.com Report-Jan.2, Air India has announced the resumption of non-stop flights between Delhi and Rome, restoring direct air connectivity between the Indian and Italian capitals after nearly six years. The route had been suspended since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The service will restart from March 25, 2026, with four weekly flights operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The route connects Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi (DEL) with Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (Fiumicino) in Rome (FCO). This addition forms part of Air India's ongoing expansion of its European network and is timed to coincide with the spring and summer travel season.

Flights will be operated using Boeing 787-8 aircraft, configured with 18 flat-bed seats in Business Class and 238 seats in Economy Class.

For the initial period from March 25 to 27, 2026, flight AI123 will depart Delhi at 13:15 local time and arrive in Rome at 18:00. The return flight AI122 will depart Rome at 19:50 and arrive in Delhi at 09:00 the following day.

From March 29, 2026, onwards, the departure from Delhi remains at 13:15, with arrival in Rome at 18:55. The return flight will depart Rome at 20:50, arriving in Delhi at 09:00 the next day. All times are local.

Nipun Aggarwal, Air India Chief Commercial Officer, said: "Connecting India to more of the world remains one of our top priorities. India and Italy share deep-rooted commonalities in culture, business and trade, which makes Rome a natural addition to Air India's expanding network. This non-stop service not only augments direct connectivity between the two capital cities but also offers travellers from Italy greater choice and seamless onward connections via our Delhi hub to vibrant destinations across the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia."

The resumption provides passengers from Italy with direct access to Delhi and convenient onward connections to destinations including Bangkok, Colombo, Ho Chi Minh City, Kathmandu, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Phuket, and Singapore.

Ivan Bassato, Chief Aviation Officer of Aeroporti di Roma, said: "The resumption of Air India's services to Rome, with direct flights to Delhi, marks a strategically important development that reinforces expectations of continued growth in long-haul markets in 2026. This new service addresses growing demand across key traffic segments, further strengthening economic and cultural ties between Italy and India and broadening opportunities for exchange between the two countries."

Italy remains one of India’s major trading partners in Europe. Passenger traffic between the two countries continues to increase, supported by a significant Indian community in Italy and rising interest from Indian travellers in Italy’s cultural heritage, history, and tourism offerings. With the addition of Rome, Air India now serves eight destinations in mainland Europe and three in the United Kingdom.

Bookings for the Delhi–Rome flights are available through Air India’s website, mobile app, airport counters, contact centres, and authorised travel agents worldwide. This development supports enhanced bilateral travel and trade links between India and Italy.
