Wedoany.com Report-Dec.31, At a recent power and energy storage conference held in India, industry information revealed that India is planning to build large-scale energy storage systems to support its energy transition. Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, former Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy of India, pointed out that to ensure stable grid operation, India may need to build nearly 230 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030.

Currently, renewable energy accounts for 26% of India's total power generation, with its daily share peaking at 51%. As renewable energy capacity continues to grow, energy storage facilities have become crucial for balancing the grid and enhancing power supply reliability. RPV Prasad, Managing Director of Envision Energy India, stated, "Declining battery prices, improvements in charging infrastructure, and policy support are driving energy storage from a balancing tool to a core grid resource."

Industry analysis suggests that achieving the 230 GWh energy storage construction target requires corresponding market mechanisms and policy framework support. Ashish Mittal, Director of Energy and Commodities at CRISIL, noted that India has tendered over 212 GWh of energy storage capacity, but large-scale development still requires long-term policies to boost investor confidence. Ashok Sharma, Deputy General Manager of the State Bank of India, emphasized the need to establish financing models tailored to the characteristics of energy storage projects and accelerate the development of domestic manufacturing capabilities.
