Sineng Electric Delivers PCS for Bulgaria's Largest Energy Storage Project in Eastern Europe (602MWh)
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Sineng Electric has delivered multiple 6.9 MW centralized PCS medium-voltage turnkey stations for the Burgas BESS project in Bulgaria, supporting a 150 MW/300 MWh energy storage system. With a total capacity of 602 MWh, this is the largest operational battery energy storage facility in Eastern Europe to date.

The project was executed by Solarpro Technology, one of Europe's EPC and O&M contractors. Once operational, it will increase Bulgaria's total installed energy storage capacity by 10%, providing balancing capabilities for large-scale wind and solar power generation while enhancing the stability, flexibility, and reliability of the national grid.
Within the 150 MW/300 MWh energy storage system, Sineng Electric's supplied 6.9 MW centralized PCS medium-voltage turnkey stations integrate four EH-1725-HA-UD centralized PCS units, one transformer, and a ring main unit (RMU) in a compact layout. This storage solution supports 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8-hour storage durations, accommodating diverse project requirements. By reducing the number of parallel connections by 50%, the PCS optimizes system design and improves operational reliability. The modular design facilitates maintenance and minimizes downtime, helping maintain high system availability throughout the project lifecycle.
This standalone battery energy storage facility provides grid services including peak shaving, load shifting, frequency containment reserve (FCR), and automatic frequency restoration reserve (aFRR), storing electricity during low-demand periods and discharging during peak hours to enhance energy efficiency, support grid balancing, and facilitate renewable energy integration. The PCS features full four-quadrant reactive power output capability and grid-forming functionality, delivering enhanced voltage support and rapid dynamic response to strengthen system resilience. It also provides a scalable demonstration model for renewable energy grid integration and grid modernization across Eastern Europe.
