en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 21, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said at the company's third-quarter 2026 earnings call that orders for its 2027 Megapack large-scale energy storage system capacity are nearly sold out, and the company is accelerating the expansion of production scale to meet market demand. Musk also expects that as product delivery scale expands, the gross margin of the Megapack business will increase significantly. Chief Financial Officer Vaibhav Taneja noted that AI data centers are an important source of current large-scale energy storage demand.

Tesla deployed 13.7 GWh of energy storage products in the third quarter, up from 13.5 GWh in the second quarter. The gross margin of the company's energy business rose to 33.1% from 20.4% in the second quarter, an increase of 12.7 percentage points. Taneja said the gross margin improvement mainly came from tariff refunds and warranty cost adjustments related to supplier cell cost compensation. The company expects that as Megapack output increases, the average selling price and business profit margin will further improve.

In terms of product supply, Tesla began delivering Megapack energy storage systems using self-produced lithium iron phosphate batteries in the third quarter. The company's previously announced manufacturing plan also includes producing third-generation Megapack and Megablock large-scale energy storage products at its Houston Gigafactory in the United States, with the third-generation Megapack planned for annual capacity of up to 50 GWh. Musk said again on October 22 that the company is increasing Megapack output as much as possible to meet continued growing order demand.
