en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 12, Polish energy developer R.Power announced that its Scornicesti standalone battery energy storage project in Olt County, Romania, has entered the final construction phase. The project has an installed power capacity of 127 MW and a storage capacity of 254 MWh. Over the past three months, 46 battery units and 23 containerized medium-voltage transformer stations have been installed and deployed. The project is expected to connect to Romania's national transmission grid between late 2026 and early 2027.

The Scornicesti project broke ground in spring 2026, with Romanian engineering firm Parapet serving as EPC contractor, working alongside R.Power's internal engineering management team. Over the past three months, the construction team completed foundation work for the battery facilities, deployment of 46 battery units, and installation of 23 containerized medium-voltage transformer stations. The project is currently advancing remaining construction and equipment commissioning, with electrical system testing and grid connection procedures still required before formal grid connection.

The project is located within the Scornicesti administrative area, covering approximately 75,000 square meters, and is being developed and implemented by RPOWER BESS – TWO S.R.L. According to public engineering documents, the energy storage station includes a 33/400 kV step-up substation connected to Romania's 400 kV high-voltage transmission network. The transmission network is operated by Transelectrica, and once completed, the project will enable bidirectional power transmission through the high-voltage grid. The rated power of 127 MW and storage capacity of 254 MWh correspond to a rated storage duration of 2 hours.

In June, R.Power secured approximately EUR 46 million in financing and guarantee arrangements for the project. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) provided up to EUR 44 million in project financing, and Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) provided EUR 2.3 million in bank guarantees to support the project's long-term storage optimization agreement with GEN-I. The EBRD financing uses a non-recourse project finance structure, with EUR 29 million covered by an InvestEU first-loss guarantee. The related financing documents also include a senior loan of up to EUR 35 million and a bridge financing facility of up to EUR 15 million, the latter intended to cover construction expenditures pending disbursement of EU grant funds.

The Scornicesti storage asset is jointly held by R.Power and French investment institution Eiffel Investment Group through a joint venture arrangement, with Eiffel Investment Group participating through its Eiffel Transition Infrastructure fund. The project is a standalone battery energy storage facility, not tied to any single solar or wind farm. Once operational, the station will participate in wholesale electricity market trading and ancillary services, and will charge and discharge according to storage dispatch requirements.

In February, R.Power signed a long-term commercial optimization agreement with GEN-I, designating GEN-I as the exclusive commercial optimizer and power trading partner for the Scornicesti project. The agreement runs from the start of commercial operations through the fifth anniversary of full revenue activation. GEN-I will be responsible for wholesale power market trading, ancillary services market participation, revenue management, and real-time dispatch, conducting commercial operations through a round-the-clock algorithmic trading system. The two parties employ a long-term revenue-sharing mechanism.

R.Power disclosed that its energy storage asset portfolio in Central and Eastern Europe, including operating and under-construction assets, has reached 900 MW and 3 GWh, with an additional 700 MW and 2.8 GWh of projects having completed commercial arrangements and being ready for construction. Scornicesti is the company's first utility-scale battery energy storage project in Romania.
