The city of Lyon in France has proposed a new road tunnel construction plan aimed at alleviating the city's increasingly severe traffic congestion. This planned underground passage is approximately 8 kilometers long, with an estimated construction cost of 2 billion euros. According to the plan, this road tunnel will connect the A6 and A7 highways, traversing the Saône River, the Rhône River, and the peninsula area between them.
The primary goal of this road tunnel project is to divert the enormous traffic flow currently using the existing Fourvière Tunnel. Project planners state that the new underground passage will effectively improve traffic conditions in Lyon's urban core area. The currently anticipated completion time is 2037.
