The Sultanate of Oman has unveiled a $70 billion investment plan for road construction, aimed at systematically upgrading the national road network. According to the 2026 road engineering budget, the country plans to build 2,525 kilometers of new main roads and carry out maintenance and upgrades on existing roads.
A series of key highway construction projects are expected to be completed in 2026. These include the Sultan Faisal bin Turki Road connecting Khasab, Dibba, and Lima; the Sultan Said bin Taimur Road connecting Adam and Tumrait; and the Sultan Turki bin Said Road connecting Kamil Wafi and Sur, among other sections. Additionally, upgrades to important traffic arteries in Muscat, such as Highway 18 and the Al Mouj road section, are also scheduled to commence in the same year. These projects will be undertaken by Strabag Oman to alleviate traffic pressure in the capital and enhance connectivity to the airport and highways.
Furthermore, another road construction project—a 42-kilometer road connecting Abila and Fayd—is progressing smoothly, with nearly 50% already completed. It is expected to be finished in the second half of 2027. The comprehensive advancement of these projects signifies that Oman is optimizing its domestic transportation infrastructure through large-scale road construction to support economic and social development.
