en.Wedoany.com Reported - ForHousing has become the first organisation in the North West of England to receive funding from the 2026-36 Social and Affordable Homes Programme (SAHP), which it plans to use to deliver 185 homes in Salford.

Of these 185 homes, 173 will be social rented housing, in line with the programme's requirement that at least 60% of homes delivered be social rented; the remaining 12 will be shared ownership homes.

The first 49 homes will be built on the site of the former Lion pub on Green Lane in Cadishead. Planning permission for the project was granted in April to Breck Homes, which will build the homes, with ForHousing operating them. The planning application number for the scheme is PA/2025/0171 on Salford City Council's planning portal.

ForHousing did not disclose the specific amount it received from the Social and Affordable Homes Programme. For non-strategic partners, the grant cap for the programme is £250 million.

The registered provider stated that the SAHP funding will be used for five upcoming projects, including the one in Cadishead. ForHousing currently owns over 19,000 homes in the North West of England and plans to build more than 700 additional homes by 2028.

Clare Tostevin, Executive Director of Investment and Development at ForHousing, said these first five schemes mark a significant step forward in implementing its housing strategy and addressing housing needs in Salford, and the organisation looks forward to launching these projects and seeing them make a tangible difference for the community.

Shahi Islam, Director of Affordable Housing Grants at Homes England, noted that such partnerships are central to the agency's core mission of increasing the supply of affordable housing in the areas that need it most, supporting local priorities, and creating sustainable communities for the future.

ForHousing owns and manages over 19,000 homes in the North West of England.

The £39 billion, 10-year Social and Affordable Homes Programme was announced last autumn, with an application deadline of April 15. The programme received an overwhelming response from registered providers, local authorities, and developers, with Housing Secretary Steve Reed stating that the programme was oversubscribed. Reed said at the UK Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF) in May that this indicated pent-up demand. The programme has a budget of £39 billion, of which £11.7 billion is specifically allocated for Greater London.
