en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Government of Canada has announced over $2.3 million in funding for the Salem Wastewater Expansion Project through the direct delivery stream of the "Building Strong Communities Fund." Located in the Green Hill area of Pictou County, Nova Scotia, the project aims to meet growing local housing and infrastructure needs by expanding wastewater services.

The federal government is contributing $2,352,574 through the direct delivery stream of the "Building Strong Communities Fund," while the Municipality of Pictou County is providing $1,843,241. The Government of Nova Scotia has also previously provided matching funding for the project. Project funds will be used for the planning, design, and construction of new infrastructure, including a pumping station, to enhance flood protection and improve wastewater management by extending linear wastewater services by 1,557 meters and pressurized sewage pipes by 2,069 meters.

Sean Fraser, Canada's Minister of Justice and Attorney General and Member of Parliament for Central Nova, stated that this federal investment in the Green Hill wastewater system will improve essential services for residents while helping the community prepare for future growth. Robert Parker, Warden of the Municipality of Pictou County, noted that the municipality appreciates sharing the installation costs with the federal and provincial governments, as this infrastructure will facilitate the construction of more new housing in the Pictou County area.
