en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 25, the consortium formed by VA TECH WABAG and Kuwait's Heavy Engineering Industries & Shipbuilding Company (HEISCO) officially signed the contract for Phase II of the Doha Seawater Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant Recarbonation System project. The project owner is Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, with a contract value of 114.28 million Kuwaiti Dinar, approximately $372 million. The project was approved for award by Kuwait's Central Agency for Public Tenders in April this year, and WABAG confirmed the order in June. This signing moves the project from the award stage to the contract execution stage.

The project adopts a Design, Build, and Operate (DBO) model, implemented by an unregistered consortium led by WABAG, with HEISCO as a consortium member. The contract scope includes design, engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning, followed by a 5-year operation and maintenance service after completion. The tender number disclosed by the Kuwaiti side is MEW 16/2024/2025, with a total contract duration of 96 months.

The Phase II desalination facility is designed with a production capacity of 60 million imperial gallons per day (60 MIGD), equivalent to approximately 272,000 cubic meters per day, utilizing seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) technology and equipped with a recarbonation system. The project construction period is 36 months, followed by a 5-year operation and maintenance phase. A photovoltaic power generation system will also be built on site to provide partial operating electricity for the desalination facility, with the installed PV capacity yet to be announced.

The project tendering process had been ongoing for some time. On April 26 this year, HEISCO submitted documents to the Kuwait Stock Exchange confirming that the Board of Directors of the Central Agency for Public Tenders approved awarding the project to the HEISCO-WABAG consortium, with the approved amount being 114.28 million Kuwaiti Dinar. On June 19, WABAG further confirmed receipt of the DBO project, specifying the 60 MIGD capacity, 36-month construction period, and 5-year operation and maintenance scope. After signing the formal contract on August 25, WABAG simultaneously submitted regulatory filings to the Indian Stock Exchange confirming the signing.
