en.Wedoany.com Reported - On November 4, the Village Board of Godfrey, Illinois, USA, approved the launch of a solicitation for engineering consulting service qualifications to carry out specialized studies and preliminary engineering design for stormwater drainage improvements in the Wick-Mor Place and Storeyland communities. Both areas experienced poor drainage and ponding during heavy summer rainfall. The subsequent studies will use hydrological analysis to determine the causes of the problems and evaluate improvement options such as enlarging drainage pipe diameters and adding stormwater inlets. The drainage projects are expected to be implemented between 2028 and 2029.

The solicitation for qualifications was initiated by the Godfrey Village Engineering Department and focuses on drainage studies, preliminary engineering design, land acquisition, and engineering services during construction. The Village Board requires external engineering consulting firms to submit qualification materials, after which a dedicated committee will evaluate them and select the top-ranked firms for negotiations on specific service scope.

According to the proposal submitted by Village Engineer Rich Beran, the two communities are located close to each other, and some drainage problems are similar in scale and nature. The consulting team will use hydrological models to analyze the conveyance capacity of existing drainage facilities, identify previously undetected ponding locations, and determine the implementation priorities of various improvement works. Technical measures under preliminary consideration include enlarging the diameters of existing drainage pipes and adding stormwater collection inlets at certain locations to disperse surface runoff during heavy rainfall.

The project will also incorporate a public participation survey to collect residents' feedback on ponding locations, frequency of occurrence, and affected areas. The Engineering Department believes that if the drainage problems in the two communities can be addressed jointly, multiple improvement projects could be bundled into a single construction contract, reducing costs associated with repeated construction mobilization and project management.

On October 6, the Village Board approved an additional $3 million from reserve funds for village-wide stormwater drainage projects. The current solicitation for engineering consulting services for the Wick-Mor Place and Storeyland communities is one of the specific ongoing local efforts to improve drainage facilities.
