Saudi Arabia's Al Haer Wastewater Treatment Plant Advances Civil Works with Daily Capacity of 200,000 Cubic Meters

en.Wedoany.com Reported - In early September, Rowad Modern Engineering provided an update on the construction progress of the Al Haer Independent Wastewater Treatment Plant in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the company advancing the project's civil works. To date, approximately 48,000 cubic meters of concrete have been poured and 5,000 tons of rebar installed on site, with around 40 structures currently under construction. Rowad's civil works execution period is 15 months. The project's wastewater treatment design capacity is 200,000 cubic meters per day, complemented by reclaimed water transmission, discharge, and related water utility facilities.

The Al Haer project is being developed under a build-own-operate-transfer model. The project company has signed a 25-year wastewater treatment agreement with Saudi Water Partnership Company, which serves as the sole off-taker of the treated water. The project scope covers design, financing, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, testing, operation and maintenance, and final transfer. In addition to the wastewater treatment plant, the project includes reclaimed water transmission facilities with a capacity of 400,000 cubic meters per day, approximately 32 kilometers of pipelines, and a water storage facility with a capacity of 200,000 cubic meters.

The project's construction investment, excluding financing costs, amounts to approximately SAR 1.5 billion, of which around SAR 1.275 billion is planned to be covered through project finance debt. In February 2025, the project achieved financial close. The project has now entered the later stages of construction, and Saudi Water Partnership Company has listed Al Haer among its independent wastewater treatment projects under construction. The previously established commercial operation target is 2026, and current construction priorities continue to include treatment facilities, the reclaimed water system, and ancillary structures.
