en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 22, Peru's Private Investment Promotion Agency signed a concession contract with Saneamiento Puerto Maldonado for the Puerto Maldonado wastewater treatment project, officially moving the project into the contract execution phase. The project has an estimated investment of USD 122.18 million and is implemented under a public-private partnership model with co-financing from the government. It plans to build a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 400 liters per second and to upgrade the urban drainage network, and is expected to serve approximately 197,000 residents.

The project is located in Tambopata Province, Madre de Dios Region, southeastern Peru. The construction scope includes the rehabilitation and expansion of the existing sewage collection network, the addition and renewal of up to 25,000 household sewage connections, as well as wastewater treatment facilities and related supporting works. According to the project plan, once completed, it will treat all urban wastewater from the city of Puerto Maldonado and reduce the direct discharge of sewage into the Tambopata River and the Madre de Dios River.

According to engineering materials previously published by Peru's Private Investment Promotion Agency, the sewage collection system plan includes approximately 171.3 km of secondary sewage pipelines, 20.9 km of trunk mains, 7 sewage pumping stations and 4.4 km of transmission pipelines. The average design treatment capacity of the wastewater treatment plant is 400 liters/second, and the project also involves the construction and upgrading of sewage collection, treatment and final discharge facilities. The above engineering parameters are project planning data, and the specific implementation scope shall be subject to the final concession contract and detailed design.

The concession period is 24 years, and the project company will be responsible for facility design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance. The Private Investment Promotion Agency, as the project authority, is responsible for contract implementation management, progress supervision and performance coordination. The project was previously awarded the concession in December 2025, confirmed in March 2026 that the Private Investment Promotion Agency would be responsible for management, and in July it was determined that the CESEL–FICHTNER consortium would undertake specialized supervision for the pre-construction phase. The signing of this contract further establishes responsibility for the subsequent implementation of the project.
