The southern French city of Montpellier is advancing a new ring road construction project. Planned for the western part of the city, connecting Juvignac and Saint-Jean-de-Védas, the project has a budget of approximately 3 billion euros. This new 6.2-kilometer road construction aims to optimize the connection between the A709 and A750 motorways and will eventually form part of an urban ring road.
The project is being developed and will be operated in the future by Vinci Autoroutes. While subsequent approval procedures still need to be completed, its environmental impact assessment has concluded, and the acquisition of most of the required land has been finalized. This road construction plan is seen as a crucial measure to address the growth in the Montpellier region. The city's metropolitan area has a population exceeding 810,000 and has been one of the fastest-growing urban areas in France over the past 25 years.
Upon completion, this road construction project is expected to help divert through traffic, thereby alleviating traffic congestion in this historic city.
