Fife Council has revealed that the construction of a passive house school in Inverkeithing, costing up to £88 million, is "progressing rapidly" and is expected to be ready for opening in 200 days.
The school construction, led by BAM and delivered by the East Central Scotland Hub, officially commenced on behalf of the local authority in July 2024. The new school will replace the existing Inverkeithing High School and is designed as a large-scale, three-story building with a capacity for 1,735 students.
The school is built on an open-plan "see and be seen" teaching philosophy, creating fully equipped and flexible indoor and outdoor learning spaces designed to support interdisciplinary learning and foster the integration of knowledge across subjects. Additionally, the school features an auditorium that can accommodate 350 students, as well as various all-weather sports fields and multi-purpose sports facilities, fully meeting the diverse needs of the student body.
Currently, the school construction is proceeding at full speed, with all parties working diligently to ensure the project is completed on time, providing a high-quality and comfortable learning environment for teachers and students. The smooth progress of this school construction project will undoubtedly inject new vitality into the educational sector in the Fife region.
