Wedoany.com Report on Feb 12th, German liner company Hapag-Lloyd and Australian supply chain technology provider WiseTech Global are collaborating to test the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technology across Hapag-Lloyd's fleet of 2 million smart containers. The goal is to achieve real-time global visibility, tracking, and data collection for containers. This IoT technology partnership aims to enhance supply chain transparency by processing massive data with advanced algorithms to support decision-making.
Hapag-Lloyd's container fleet is already equipped with IoT devices that regularly transmit location information to WiseTech's platform ecosystem. The pilot project focuses on testing the capability to process millions of data points daily, transforming IoT data into key node and product information. Location data can be distributed to customers through channels like the CargoWise cargo tracker, with potential future expansion to platforms such as GLO, INTTRA, and Neo.
This collaboration not only provides standard updates but also strives to deliver accurate, timely insights for container positioning, transport conditions, and arrival predictions. Customers can monitor container locations and identify anomalies such as deviations or delays, thereby better managing their supply chain processes. Hapag-Lloyd has also introduced a dynamic Estimated Time of Arrival (Live ETA) prediction tool, which adjusts in real-time based on GPS-tracked IoT data, improving delivery time accuracy by 75% compared to static forecasts.
WiseTech Global CEO Zubin Appoo stated, "The shipping industry has long relied on discrete and often inaccurate event updates, which can be hours or even days behind. By bringing IoT-driven real-time container data and tracking into CargoWise, we are revolutionizing supply chain visibility." Karsten Schmidt, Director of Real-Time Location and Tracking at Hapag-Lloyd, noted that this partnership is a significant step towards a more transparent, resilient, and digitized global supply chain.
In a press release, WiseTech emphasized that this initiative marks a critical moment for the industry, where carriers and technology providers are collaborating to bridge the gap between raw IoT data and actionable supply chain intelligence. For Hapag-Lloyd, this IoT technology collaboration helps enhance its service reliability and supports its commitment to efficient delivery within the Gemini Cooperation partnership with Maersk.
