The ORT-AziEWR is a novel measurement tool with directional and deep-probing capabilities for azimuthal electromagnetic wave resistivity while drilling. It operates at the conventional frequencies of 2MHz and 400KHz, utilizing a 4-transmitter, 4-receiver symmetrical antenna arrangement. The axial and transverse antennas simultaneously collect and process orthogonal electromagnetic field components, enabling the prediction of formation boundaries or oil-water interfaces up to 4.5 meters away under favorable resistivity contrast conditions.
The ORT-AziEWR provides real-time boundary detection signal imaging or azimuthal resistivity imaging, primarily used for formation evaluation while drilling and geological steering boundary detection. It effectively prevents crossing formation boundaries and unnecessary sidetracking, maintaining a controlled distance between the borehole and reservoir or fluid boundaries.
