On February 27, the west section shield tunneling of the Shenshan Railway Pingshandong Tunnel Project achieved a significant milestone. The "Pingshandong No. 3" shield tunneling machine broke through the 1,000-meter mark, marking a phased accomplishment in the construction of this critical tunnel project. As the longest tunnel on the entire Shenshan Railway line, the Pingshandong Tunnel has a total length of 27.885 kilometers and adopts a single-tube double-track design. Its construction difficulty and technical requirements are among the highest.

According to the construction unit, China Railway No. 3 Engineering Group Co., Ltd., the west section shield tunneling of the Pingshandong Tunnel Project is 3850.6 meters long and utilizes a super-large slurry balance shield tunneling machine with a diameter of 14.34 meters. The geological conditions of the tunnel are complex, requiring passage through 19 risk sources including weakly weathered granite, rivers, buildings, roads, and oil and gas pipelines. Furthermore, the entire section runs parallel to the Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway, with the closest distance being only 8.6 meters. The construction faces challenges such as significant difficulty in controlling surface settlement and high requirements for precise control of the shield's posture.

To address these challenges, the project department employed BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology to create detailed geological risk maps, identifying high-risk sections in advance. They also dynamically optimized tunneling parameters through an intelligent monitoring system to ensure safe and controllable construction. Simultaneously, they innovatively applied synchronous shield pushing and segment assembly technology, precisely controlling the propulsion posture and achieving a dynamic balance between the two core processes of continuous propulsion and stable segment assembly. Compared to traditional operation modes, the overall time for a single ring of shield tunneling has been reduced by approximately 40 to 60 minutes, greatly improving tunneling efficiency in hard rock strata. Currently, the project has established an integrated collaborative operation mechanism, promoting efficient linkage among various processes. It is steadily advancing at an average daily tunneling speed of 12 meters, with a maximum monthly hard rock tunneling exceeding 100 rings.

As a crucial component of the national "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway network's coastal corridor and a key link for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's eastward expansion, the tunnel construction of the Shenshan Railway holds significant importance. Upon completion, the project will strengthen high-speed connectivity between the Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze River Delta and the West Coast Economic Zone, achieving frequent and convenient connections between Shenzhen and the Shenzhen-Shanwei Special Cooperation Zone.
