Wedoany.com Report on Mar 2nd, With the Lantern Festival approaching, passenger flow during the Spring Festival travel rush on China's Yangtze River Delta railway remains high. According to information from China Railway Shanghai Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Shanghai Railway Group), on March 1, the Yangtze River Delta railway transported 2.981 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of 25.1%. It is expected to transport 2.45 million passengers on March 2, with plans to add 179 passenger trains to meet the persistently strong travel demand.

To ensure smooth travel for passengers, Shanghai Railway Group has increased capacity deployment on key routes and during peak hours. On March 2, it plans to add 179 passenger trains and expand the formation of 125 EMU trains. Among these, 119 are inter-regional passenger trains, mainly serving long-distance passenger flow from regions such as Northeast China, Yunnan-Guizhou, Sichuan-Chongqing, Northwest China, Hunan, Hubei, and Henan to major cities covered by the Yangtze River Delta railway. The remaining 60 are intra-regional passenger trains, primarily serving short-distance passenger flow from areas like Hefei, Fuyang, Bengbu, and Xuzhou to cities such as Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Ningbo.
In terms of passenger flow composition, the current overlap of multiple passenger groups, including migrant workers, students, and family visitors, is driving the sustained high operation levels of the Yangtze River Delta railway. The railway department has introduced several service measures based on passenger flow characteristics. Passenger transport sections in cities like Shanghai and Nanjing are providing anti-loss luggage tags for student groups who have a lot of luggage and are prone to mix-ups during their concentrated return to school, and are assisting with carrying luggage and placing heavy items. Building and apartment sections in cities like Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Hefei are strengthening equipment support and increasing the frequency of inspections of station water supply equipment to ensure an adequate water supply for passenger trains.
The railway department reminds passengers that the current period is the peak of the return travel rush, with high passenger volumes at some stations and on some trains. Before traveling, passengers must confirm their train information, allow sufficient time for entering the station and boarding, strictly adhere to regulations regarding carry-on items, board in an orderly manner according to the information on their tickets, and work together to maintain a good travel environment. Specific information on the added trains can be queried through official channels such as the Railway 12306 website.
