Wedoany.com Report on Mar 2nd, As electric vehicle technology advances, power electronic components face challenges of higher power density, thermal dissipation, and compact installation spaces, prompting manufacturers to seek more effective protection and stabilization solutions. The German company WEVO-CHEMIE GmbH recently introduced the WEVOSIL 2210x FL series of 2K silicone potting compounds, specifically designed for next-generation electric vehicle power electronics to address these combined stresses.
Modern DC/DC converters, inverters, and inductive components must withstand continuous high currents, extreme temperatures, and mechanical stresses within compact spaces. According to the company, the new RTV silicone is designed to provide precise thermal management, reliable electrical insulation, and long-term mechanical stability, suitable for high-load environments.
The acceleration of electrification and increased integration of power electronic components lead to continuously rising thermal output. The WEVOSIL 2210x FL materials are formulated to protect sensitive components, improve heat dissipation, and enhance long-term reliability. For example, DC/DC converters play a central role in high-voltage on-board architectures, requiring the transmission of large amounts of power within limited designs. WEVOSIL 22102 FL offers a thermal conductivity of 1.0 W/m·K, combined with efficient heat dissipation, moderate density, and mechanical decoupling properties, making it suitable for applications prioritizing weight reduction or thermal performance, especially for component operation under high continuous currents, elevated ambient temperatures, or limited cooling surfaces.
The hydrophobic silicone potting compounds also prevent moisture ingress, condensation, and corrosion, protecting densely assembled components, windings, transformers, and sensitive capacitors. Inverters, as the core of electric drivetrains, face continuous thermal loads, requiring potting materials to fully wet tightly packaged power modules, including at the smallest gaps. WEVOSIL 22105 FL features very low viscosity and high thermal conductivity of 1.5 W/m·K, designed for continuous operating temperatures up to 200°C. With an ultra-soft hardness of approximately 60 Shore 00, it can reduce stress on solder joints, substrates, and sensitive semiconductors, enhancing the durability of modern electric axles.
Ferrite cores are fragile and sensitive to mechanical stress but require maintained electromagnetic stability. RTV silicone provides vibration damping, crack protection, and reduced acoustic effects. With a standard viscosity below 5,000 mPa·s, it can be processed using conventional mixing and metering equipment, minimizing air pockets, which helps improve the EMC stability of potted components. It is suitable for demanding inductive applications, such as chokes in electric vehicle systems. Through its application-focused WEVOSIL 2210x FL product portfolio, WEVO positions itself as a development partner for OEMs and suppliers dedicated to cutting-edge electric vehicle power electronics.
